What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is a high-intensity functional training program that originated in the U.S. and has gained massive popularity across the world. It’s based on everyday movements—called functional movements—such as walking, running, standing up, picking things up, lifting, pushing, pulling, and jumping. Each workout is different every day, keeping both your body and mind engaged. The program focuses on developing ten foundational elements of fitness, including endurance, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy, and stamina. By training these elements evenly, CrossFit helps improve overall physical ability and makes daily activities easier and more efficient. Workouts are scalable and accessible to everyone, regardless of age, fitness level, or experience. Certified coaches tailor the program to meet each individual’s needs, making it a safe and effective way to train. Classes are small, mixed-gender, and community-focused—creating a fun and motivating environment. CrossFit began in the U.S., where it was adopted by the military, police forces, and emergency responders as part of their physical training. Since then, it has grown rapidly in popularity. Today, there are over 13,000 CrossFit boxes (what CrossFit gyms are called) around the world, and the movement is gaining traction in Japan as a new style of fitness.
